Vinyard Cup 2015

On July 30, 2015   |   By thekiteboarder.com

An Event Like No Other
Marthas Vineyard is in full swing this time of year and its not just the island thats hot! On July 10-12 the waters off of Marthas Vineyard played host to one of the most unique regattas ever to take place. Eighty-eight boats ranging in size from 12 feet to 81 feet shared the water with 30 foiling kiteboards, competing for $10,000 in cash, compliments of Lynch and Associates.

Sustainability for the Future
For 2015, the Vineyard Cup built on its sustainable roots. For the past three years Sail Marthas Vineyard has been moving up the ranks in the Sailors for the Sea Clean Regatta initiative, but this year, decided to go a step further by serving all local food at the event; all of it either grown or raised on Martha’s Vinyard. This included greens and tomatoes from Island Grown Initiative, Chickens from Morning Glory Farm, Oysters from Honeysuckle Oysters and Pigs from The Good Farm, amongwith many other island purveyors. In addition, the Vinyard Cupattempted to be a Zero Waste event, meaning that all food was be composted, all containers were recycled and anything that could be reused was be reused. In the end, they had a minimal impact and 1 yard of trash, 90% of which was from the packaging of materials provided by outside companies.
