On August 27, 2015   |   By thekiteboarder.com

Only two years after the premiere of Red Bull Coast 2 Coast, the kitesurfing event has already become an absolute highlight in kitesurfing calendars; in fact, it has done so worldwide. This isobvious when looking at 1500 applications from 19 countries. For security reasons only 600 kite surfers will be able to start the race on September 19 from Fehmarn. With this record number of kitesurfers, the mass start will spread out to about one and a half kilometers on Niobe beach, 20 kilometers from Fehmarn to Rdbyhavn, Denmark, and back again. The worlds toughest kite surfing race will definitely push its participants to their limit. For more information, see redbull.com/coast2coast.

The 600 participants were selected randomly. Everyone who has not yet received an invitation gets the opportunity to post their best kite-shot with #RBCOAST2COAST on Facebook or Instagram until the end of the month. The lucky winners will secure the ten last slots available. All riders, whether amateurs or professionals, have the same chances of securing a spot in the race. At Red Bull Coast 2 Coast all riders compete against each other, no matter their level of experience. Under one condition: All participants have to hit the water with a Twintip or Directional Board. Foils are not allowed. Facing the challenges of the toughest kite surfing marathon in the world, the sense of community comes first.

Participants of Red Bull Coast 2 Coast come from 19 different countries, including Canada, USA, Ireland, Slovakia, Germany and Denmark and include Red Bull athlete Linus Erdmann, F-One team rider Alex Soto, and the German Champion in Kitesurf Racing, Flo Gruber. After all, this is a race from coast to coast.

The start takes place on September 19, 2015. An acoustic signal and a green flag will kick things off. 600 kites will then make their way to Rdbyhavn. A buoy about 150 meters off the Danish coast marks the turning point of the race. The buoy must be completely circumnavigated. From start to finish, the riders have to overcome a total of 40 kilometers on the open sea. Every rider is provided with a GPS-tracking device by TracTrac that will allow the kite surfers to track their distance and speed. The wide-ranging safety concept also includes monitoring and security boats accompanying the participants on their ride over the ocean.
